New PartnerCentral Channel APIs
2025-11-21
What’s this one all about then ?
Its been a year since much happened in the PartnerCentral API space
That feels like a long time …
But this week, AWS started dropping functionality ahead of re:Invent, and one of the things we got was the PartnerCentral Channel API
In our part of the world and experience, not so many people are doing channel business, but there are other places where its dominant and scaled,
and so there are going to be folk for whom this makes a big difference in onboarding and managing channel relationships.
What’s in the box ?
Here’s what dropped:
- Introduced Channel API: Added a new Channel API to AWS Partner Central, enabling partners to manage channel relationships and partner-to-partner collaborations.
- Channel API reference documentation: Added comprehensive API reference documentation for the Channel API, including all available actions and data models.
- Channel API permissions: Added IAM permission policies and access control documentation specific to the Channel API.
- Channel API logging: Added logging support and documentation for the Channel API to help audit and track API usage.
- Channel API notifications: Added event notification support for the Channel API, enabling partners to receive real-time updates on channel-related activities.
- Channel API quotas: Added service quotas documentation for the Channel API.
- Sandbox testing for Channel API: Added sandbox testing capabilities for the Channel API, allowing partners to test channel workflows in a non-production environment.
- API structure reorganization: Reorganized documentation to distinguish between the Selling API and Channel API, with dedicated sections for each API’s permissions, logging, notifications, and quotas.
- Supported regions documentation: Added documentation for supported AWS regions for both Selling and Channel APIs.
Two things stand out to us from first glance:
- how apparently simple it is to setup a channel relationship at the programmatic level. All the drama happens in the admin/commercial side, none of it is technical.
- the API reorganization (nerd out!!), splitting up what was becoming a pretty unweildy catch all API into a better structure - initially Selling and Channel, so presumably there’s some more coming too. Anything that makes integration easier to build is good.
The wrap up
New APIs for PartnerCentral are good; maybe they are leading up to a different way of integrating or operating PartnerCentral, lets see what else comes out in the re:Invent rush.
